Hassan Kheri: Mbale Heroes Appoint New Coach

Mbale Heroes have on Thursday unveiled Hassan Kheri as Bobic Odawa’s replacement.

Odowa along with entire coaching staff were on Wednesday let go of following a poor run of results recorded by the club since the start of the 2020/21 Big League campaign.

Bobic who was brought in last November as an assistant and took over the head coaching duties in December, had overseen four winless games. Three were in the league and a loss to Gaddafi FC in the Uganda Cup earlier this week.

Kheri now comes in and he will be assisted by Robert Mayanja and David Kiwanuka.

His tenure will start with the second leg of the Uganda Cup round of 32 this Sunday against Gaddifi FC who won the first 1-0.

The former Victoria University, Phaidha Black Angels and BUL FC coach said that he here at Mbale to restore the history of club and he is sure that his side will negotiate past Gadafi to go to the next stage of Uganda Cup.

“The main thing we have here is the history of this club. Mbale Heroes is a historical club which has been in Uganda, playing in Super league then, winning Uganda cup but didn’t represent the country due to lack of money.” Kheri said in his first interview.

“But now FIFA and CAF came up with a procedure of sponsoring each team that wins and that is why Proline FC was able to do it last time because of CAF money not FUFA money because its doing the same in other countries and that why they put stages in these tournament if you pass through to another stage, you get different amount of money.

“And I thank FUFA that it has introduced it in Uganda Cup as well, where the winner gets 50 millions Uganda shillings and each club knocked out at round of 32 get 1.5 but I don’t want us to stop at that. We can’t lose to Gaddafi by just one goal. We can turn the theme around and this where Mbale Heroes has history.”

However, the tactician he is aware of the tough task ahead and he asked for enough time to deliver results.

“I know the kind of Job you brought us too, it is equally easy to say but tough to do but am prepared for it with my technical team. We shall face each in and out and try to produce what is required to make this history club to come back where its supposed to be.

“May be the man power would defeat us but I think we have the players and we can tune them to what we want and I just don’t want to give you high hopes but give us the time and we do the job.”

Mbale Heroes who closely missed out on a final slot to Uganda Premier after losing 0-1 to Kitara FC in promotion play off are in red zone of Elgon group of FUFA Big league, in 7th place with 2 points from three games so far.
