Shorthanded SC Villa Target Revenge

SC Villa will seek to pay back Vipers when the two sides face off on Saturday at Bombo Military Barracks.

Vipers won the reverse fixture 3-0 at St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende with Dan Sserunkuma, Yunus Ssentamu and Paul Willa on scoresheet.

This fixture has been bitterly contested in the past both on and off the pitch and Saturday’s will be the latest installment before the two rivals meet again in a Uganda Cup double header.

Villa will miss a couple of players and coach Edward Kaziba is aware of the task ahead: “We are in the know that we are playing a team which is second on the league table, so, to come out on top of tomorrow’s encounter, we have to put in the extra effort.”

“Just like when we played in the first round, even today we have numerous injuries. The coaching team is making sure we have a strong side for tomorrow despite the injuries.

“This is a big game, a game many people look forward to. Winning this game is a very big step forward in achieving this season’s targets as a team. We have done all the necessary preparations needed to collect maximum points.”

The Jogoos come into the fixture on the back of a 1-0 loss away to Onduparaka in Arua but will bank on home support this time round.

As Villa are fighting for places, the same cannot be said of title chasing Vipers who sit just a point below leaders URA.

In fact, they could have been on the summit if they beat URA last time out. They were made to dig deep for a point however after Cromwell Rwothomio had put URA ahead at Kitende. A late equaliser from Yunus Ssentamu ensured Vipers remain ok course.

The Venoms have 50 points, 18 above eighth-placed SC Villa!

Such has been the story of two sides separated by quality in depth.
