URA FC To Represent Uganda At CAF Confederation Cup

FUFA has confirmed URA FC as the country’s representative for the 2021/22 CAF Confederation Cup.

The decision comes after the Federation provided an updated on the status of the 2020/21 season.

The Uganda Premier League has been ended by the Federation, with Express declared as champions above second placed Tax Collectors (URA).

The communication from the Federation reads: “URA FC who were second on the Uganda Premier League table at the time the lockdown was imposed will represent Uganda in the CAF Confederation Cup.”

The Caf confederation Cup is the second-tier competition of African club football, ranking below the CAF champions League.

Normally, the winner of Uganda Cup takes the Caf Confederation Cup slot but it will not be the case for the second season running.

FUFA has not ended the Uganda Cup but said that the competition which is at the Semifinal stage will be played to conclusion before the start of the 2021/2022 new season.

CAF set the deadline for registration of players and clubs for interclub competitions to August 15, but FUFA has not taken chances.

URA, founded in 1997, have won the League four times but will be making their third appearance at CAF Confederation Cup

They made their debut in 2006 when they were eliminated by Al-Merrikh at the round of 32.

In 2015, they ousted ASSM Elgeco Plus of Madagascar at the preliminary round before falling to Orlando Pirates at the first round.

Coached by Sam Ssimbwa, the Tax Collectors will be targeting a place in the lucrative groups on the continent.
