Afrobasket: Two Foreign-based Players Boost Silverbacks Camp

Robinson Opong Odoch and Eric Rwahwire are the first foreign-based players to join the Silverbacks camp in Kigali Rwanda for the 2021 FIBA Afrobasket.

Canada-based Rwahwire who averaged 8 points in the Qualification campaign, will be making his debut at the Afrobasket.

Shooting guard Opong on the other hand was part of the 2017 Silverbacks squad.

The development means that there are seven players, including the local based players, in Silverbacks camp.

More foreign based players, including NBA Forward Ishmail Wainright who is expected to jet in on Monday, will be expected to boost the camp.

The 30th edition of the Afrobasket tips off in Kigali, Rwanda from August 24 to September 5.

Uganda who finished second in Group E of the Qualifiers with a 3-1 mark will be taking part for a third straight time.

The team has done two PCR tests already and all have been negative, confirmed Silverbacks Manager Grace Muguli Kwizera.

FERWABA and Rwanda Government have made it easy for Silverbacks having reduced the quarantine time to three days instead of seven and the team will be entering the bubble soon.

*August 25: Senegal Vs Uganda, 6pm
*August 27: Uganda vs Cameroon, 12pm
*August 29: South Sudan vs Uganda, 6pm
